Antifragilität | Lucida

How can a product be designed, which in the process of its regular and logical use can improve its functionality by itself?

The utilization of the product differs according to the influence of day and night. When the surrounding becomes dark the product unfolds its luminosity and serves as mobile light. A so-called “turning off” of the light is achieved by introducing the light source to the framework. The user can simply reach for the light in the dark. The box frame is filled to 10% with sand. This is not only for static reasons basically, but as well as to give the style of an hourglass. The energy source is limited in time and reproduces physically the luminosity of the object.

The principle of phosphorescence provides a constant effect and is for application to its maximum material endurance. This is in the light of its sustainability and today’s planned obsolescence on products.
